2017 Comes to a Close

Posted 9/14/2017 12:35pm by Don Schooner.

WOW! Thank YOU so much for a fantastic 2017 Season. Berries were amazing and we are very grateful to all who came out and picked! This was our first year sans the CSA and I am going to be honest - I was heartsick for my CSA peeps. This year has been full of transitions. We lost two of our treasured staff members; Emily and Rachel are off to new adventures. I miss Emily like crazy but know she will come visit us. Rachel is going gangbusters with her silversmithing and we wish her success. She is incredibly talented. If you would like to see what she makes, visit her here on instagram - you will be delighted. She designed several pieces for me and I love them!

We have a few new staff members that are doing an amazing job! Holly and Duane have joined us and we couldn't be more thrilled. Both hail from Toledo and enjoy being out of the city and love soaking life at the farm.

Alan is still doing that voodoo that only he can do. The summer of 2017 found him constructing a river system for our fresh water shrimp and he has been working hard at getting the barn ready for the lobster. Plus a whole lotta other farmy stuff.

We had record numbers of people out picking berries. One day we had over 40 people out in the fields. Schooner and I both felt a huge sense of relief that people actually came out to be part of the experience. This was our first year to really open the berry fields and it was a huge success. Thank you all who came out and supported the farm. We always marvel at how our community continues to grow. Thank you for being a part of it.

We have our first wedding at the farm soon. We've been busy weeding and preparing for that. Fingers crossed for a beautiful fall day!

We have several yoga classes coming up - The Saturday Series with Amanda continues. Check here for more info - Amanda is such a joy and her classes are very personable. No stuffiness here!

I have decided to hold off on classes this fall. We have a lot going on the next 6 weeks or so and I decided to hold off. We will have beekeeping and other classes in the late winter/early spring.

Schooner Farms will be participating in a few holiday sales - keep posted for more info. Jams, herbal items, soaps and such!

Thanks again for a wonderful 2017 Season!
